Howdy! My name is Erika and I’m a web designer and frontend developer. I’m excited to tell you about my story!

Growing up, I had always been an equal parts blend of creative and logical. Fun fact – I started drawing lifelike animals when I was 2 ½ years old and started creating award winning pastel paintings when I was 5. But I also loved solving puzzles, spelling bees, and studying physics and calculus. More than once, I turned down playing hooky from school to go shopping at the mall with my mom in order to study for an exam. Straight up nerd! That was me.

Then, faced with making a career decision and choosing a college major, I chose mechanical engineering after carefully considering a study in industrial design. Engineering won out, but just ever so slightly. I was torn at the time, but I convinced myself that I had made the right decision. I know I’m dating myself, but this is before I had even heard of web design as a profession.

I was recruited out of college to work at an aerospace company. Dream job, am I right? For most engineers, that’s probably true, and it was for me for a little while. But as time went on, my right brain felt starved and my left brain felt less and less excited to get out of bed in the morning for work. After a decade in the industry, I knew I needed a change.

That's when I taught myself how to code and dusted off my design skills. Now I truly have found my dream job!
